Bristol Bay Outfitters is owned and operated by John Peterson. John is a master, professional guide who has outfitted in Alaska more than 30 years. He has been hunting in Alaska for 40+ years and has had the pleasure of hunting around the world. He is a pilot with over 10,000 hours and 37 years Alaska flying experience. In the ‘off’ season, he is a commercial fisherman and fish for salmon with his family in Bristol Bay. He and his family also fish for halibut and black cod.
John and his professional team of guides do not believe in high volume outfitting. Bristol Bay Outfitters chooses to only take a select few hunters for each species each year in order ensure the greatest opportunity for success for each hunter. In a normal year Bristol Bay Outfitters has three to four assistant guidesĀ for the Brooks Range, which allows John to check on camps in his Super Cub, haul meat and trophies, as well as the client, out early if they desire.
Under the U.S. Fish & Wildlife system, Bristol Bay Outfitters/John Peterson has limited his quota to no more than ten sheep hunts per year. However, he usually outfits six to eight. Normally, he outfits only 3-4 moose and 6-8 grizzly clients per season. He has have found this gives his hunters the best chance for a successful, exciting wilderness experience.
In Bristol Bay, he is limited to six brown bear clients per season in Bristol Bay Outfitters exclusive area of the Togiak National Wildlife Refuge. Bristol Bay Outfitters has achievedĀ close to 100% successful brown bear hunts in past years. He leave is airplane behind in the fall because this is amphib-float plane country, and he will utilize the numerous, large lake and river systems. If clients want to get some world-class fishing in during their hunt, then a float hunt in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge or the Togiak National Wildlife refuge is an excellent choice.
